Signature Member Norah Silva selected by the Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs to attend Creative Capital Workshop at Old School Square March 5-7.

I am honored to be selected for this workshop and I would like to share what I learn with interested guild members as well.

Here is the workshop overview:
At the core of Creative Capital's Professional Development Program is the Weekend Workshop Retreat, an intensive two and a half days described as a "crash course in self-management, strategic planning, fundraising, and promotion." Based on a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum, the workshop format employs lectures, peer critiques, one-on-one consultations, interactive exercises, handouts, and written assignments to introduce business skills to a group of up to 24 participants. The weekend begins with artists showing their work. Then, presentations by the co-leaders are followed by focused sessions in each of the topic areas. Participants are given a handbook and workbook as well as handouts on practical how-to information, and meet with leaders in smaller work groups.

A DEDICATION CEREMONY FOR "WHEN ARE YOU COMING TO VISIT?"
By artist Melissa Markowitz

The ceramic sculpture will be documented day by day, month by month as "she" weathers away, literally and metaphorically. The sculpture's purpose is to bring awareness to the community of the neglect given to those who have critically shaped us as individuals and as a nation, our elderly. We often neglect the elderly, those who raised us and mentored us. Just one phone call, a visit, a letter, or a postcard can make someone's day. Let "Us" as a community stop this neglect.

South Florida Artists Association invites you to attend:

What: Annual Lake Worth Street Painting Festival

When: Sunday, February 21, 2010 11:00 AM

Where:
Brogues On the Avenue (Meeting Point)
621 Lake Ave Lake Worth
Lake Worth, FL 33460

As promised, it's time for the annual Lake Worth Street Painting Festival. Watch Art Emerge! If you've never attended this event, and you enjoy art, I would highly recommend you work this day into your schedule and join us! Downtown Lake Worth and the Greater Lake Worth Chamber of Commerce invite you to the annual Street Painting Festival, which claims bragging rights as the country’s largest.

The 2-day event transforms the downtown streets with more than 200 street paintings sponsored by businesses, organizations, families and individuals, covering more area than any other festival of its kind in the U.S. Hundreds of artists converge to display their diverse talents on the asphalt – using only chalk – in styles that range from Renaissance classicism to Cubism and Pop Art. Street performers, strolling minstrels and Mainstage musical entertainment add to the creative atmosphere. To learn more about the event check out the website here: Festival Website

I've attended this festival for a number of years, and since it is a two day event, Sunday usually gives the visitor an opportunity to view the works closer to their completion. Let's meet Sunday at 11:00am in front of the Irish Bar, Brogues. Brogues is located in the middle of downtown Lake Worth (621 Lake Avenue Lake Worth, 33460). There should be plenty of parking in various lots and along the side streets. From there, we can wander the streets, check out the work, enjoy the day and then stop in at one of the many bars and restaurants for lunch or a drink if you choose. The event goes on until 6:00pm, so you can stay for a short time there or relax and enjoy the afternoon in the city.

For those that RSVP yes or maybe, I'll be sending a message as the date gets closer to include my cell phone to contact me if you are having trouble locating us.

Splash 12 call
CALL FOR ENTRIES: Splash 12: Celebrating Artistic Vision
North Light Books' hardbound showcase of the best in contemporary watercolors
December 15, 2009 DEADLINE
artwork eligibility
A watercolor painting does not start with paint, a brush and a piece of paper. Before any technique is applied or considered, there is vision. Whether an artist is celebrating the transcendent beauty of the surrounding world, or exploring her own innermost thoughts, before anything is visual, a painting is animated-brought to life-by the artist's artistic vision. If your artwork is selected, you will be asked to explain in writing how your painting expresses your artistic vision, as well as give a few pointers about the technique you used to translate your vision to the artwork. You can interpret your artistic vision as your overarching understanding of the meaning of life, or more narrowly, as your vision for communicating something specific in a particular painting-or something in between. We look for excellence in a variety of styles and subjects. The dominant medium must be transparent watercolor, though minor uses of other media are acceptable.
selection process
Rachel Wolf and the editorial staff of North Light Books will review all submissions. Art will be selected on the basis of general quality as well as suitability for this publication.
